Plan A Vacation With Your Family

By Beth Willis

Many families don't go on vacation because planning them is simply too stressful and time consuming. But, if you can plan your vacation following a few simple tips, you will find that the planning itself can be a lot of fun, and your family will love getting involved in the preparations. Family vacations don't have to be a thing of the past; you just need better planning skills.

First of all, try to figure out how much time you can take off work and school, and which time of year it will be possible to go. This type of assessment will allow you to decide how far your destination can be, and how much you need to prepare. For instance, if you can only take four days off you couldn't fly from the US to Australia and back again but you might be able to go to Florida and enjoy the beach as a family.

Vacations and Your Budget

Figuring out how much you can spend is certainly very important. After finding out the amount of time that you have, knowing how much you can afford to spend, will certainly help you plan better. Even if you can take three days off, having a tight budget will not allow you to travel through Europe, so maybe you need to plan a less expensive vacation. Being clear on how much you can spend can make a huge difference on your trip, since you will be able to relax and have fun without worrying about spending too much. If your budget is really tight, you can still drive a short distance and enjoy a nearby attraction with your family.

Once you have decided how much time you can go for, and how much you can afford to spend, it is time to decide the type of activities your family will enjoy. If you only have adults in your family, you might want to consider an adventure type of vacation. And, if you are traveling with young children, you might want to consider going to a theme park, camping, or to the beach. Remember that your vacation doesn't have to be fancy, just has to be something that is age and level appropriate for the whole family. If you don't know what to do, plan your vacation around the youngest person in the family and work with that.

When you go about the planning process in this order you will be doing it in a successive manner where you build one piece of information on top of the other so that by the time you consider what type of activities you can all do you know where you want to go and you are ready to make your reservations. You might let the kids vote, or you might otherwise choose everything on your own, but no matter how you will decide, this three-step system can help you plan your family vacation with no stress.
