The Darwin Yacht Club, AKA the Darwin Sailing Club, is one of Darwin's iconic landmarks. It is popular with locals and visitors alike and is often known as much for it's social activities as the sailing. The Darwin to Ambon World used to be the primary sailing event of the year, however talks are presently under-way with the Indonesian Government for an alternative race destination. The club also offers instruction in sailing and windsurfing.
Social sailing is also popular and the club has regular events,eg a weekend sail to Crab Claw Island, Twilight Sailing on Fridays evenings as well as Sandbar Bar-b-q sailing trips. The dry season is the best time for these activities and are perfect for those attempting to find fun on the water.
The dry season is also the perfect time to learn how to sail and windsurf as Fannie Bay is reasonably sheltered. The palms within the manicured grounds provide a cool spot for watching the sunsets over a meal and a drink after a day in the sunshine and there are lots of members and guests who love the old club purely for this alone. It is a practice.
