Known as a manufacturer of high-end watches, the Skagen brand hasn't been around long, but it hasn't taken long for it to make its mark on the fashion industry. Founded by Henrik and Charlotte Jorst in 1989, the Skagen brand prides itself on encapsulating a part of Danish culture into its timeless and high-fashion designs.
The company has quickly become a popular international brand since its inception around 20 years ago and much of its initial success could be attributed to the popular American department store Bloomingdale's. A well-known American store and part of the popular Macy's brand, Bloomingdale's was the first store to give the Skagen brand its big break. In 1995, the stocked the watches on a trial run and after they sold out almost immediately launched them quickly as an international brand.
The brand was named after a place loved by both of the brand's creators - Skagen a small town in Denmark. Located on the tip of the Jutland Peninsula, the small fishing village of Skagen is a place commonly known for its picturesque landscapes and sense of immense beauty and peace, elements that are encapsulated well throughout the Skagen range. The beauty of Skagen makes time stand still and gives you time to really take in your surroundings, just as the Skagen watches can often take your breath away.
Initially created in New York and then moved to Nevada, USA the creators of the Skagen brand wanted to keep elements of their heritage running throughout the brand and keep to the Danish style of design. Keeping with this style meant nothing short of the finest craftsmanship and extremely elegant yet practical designs that could be found and that has often become synonymous with Denmark.
Online shopping has been a recent introduction to the Skagen brand and came onto the scene in 2010. This format of shopping has put the Skagen brand on an even larger international scale allowing the products to be sold and delivered to addresses right around the globe.
