Immigration Lawyer: Do You Need One Or Not?

By Frank Scherer

If you or a loved one is planning on immigrating to the United States or even considering visiting, in which case they would need a visa then you may have already talked to people who have gone through the process. Inevitably what you found out is that it's difficult to find two people who share the same story about what they went through. This happens to be one all marks of immigration process.

Ask one person, and the story they will give you, is that they were strung along for two years maybe three. A nice-looking professional who kept appointment after appointment after appointment in his or her quest to bring their spouse over from a foreign country. Then talk to someone else and they'll tell you was a breeze. That they attend a few appointments and they were promptly cleared for a visa just like that. Some young person in bluejeans, with a beard and long hair.

So if you're looking for someone else to give your typical experience for you to go on just forget about it. It's the luck of the draw, and the reason why this is so is that so many major decisions are left up to low level bureaucrats sitting at a desk. Someone that may look up and decided that they don't like you just as soon as they lay eyes on you. Then what far too many people find out the hard way, is that appeals processes are vague and all too often ineffective.

Besides if you were to ask anyone who's already gone through the immigration process on their own or obtained a visa these days on their own, they will tell you that the last thing that they wanted to do was file any kind of appeal. To draw unwanted negative attention to themselves, and this also applies to American citizens who have gone through the system. You see, if things are going wrong for you and taking more time than you thought they would there's always reasons for that.

As a matter of fact once you're on your own trying to navigate your way through the integration of the application system, the truth be told, an appeal probably won't do any good and if anything can make things worse. You see, all it takes is for one of the many bureaucrats you have to deal with to get a bad attitude towards you and decide to make things difficult for you, and you can be stuck there for "who knows how long" trying to get things sorted out without any reason given to you.

So in light of the fact that immigration and even getting a visa now is a legal process that can involve any number of twists and turns it's highly advisable that if you can afford it that you higher immigration attorney. Not only is an immigration attorney knowledgeable about the entire process but he or she will be far better able to loosen log-jams you may run into. Situations and tasks where you're better off having someone representing you rather than doing it yourself.
