A Move to Central Portugal

Many people are curious about what their life would be like in Central Portugal and dream of emigrating, moving to a rustic village location where they can relax and slow down. In Lagares, Central Portugal you will find a little village which has a range of local deliveries of fresh produce on offer. Although rural and rustic enough to provide you with peace and quiet, Lagares is close to the connections of the IP3 and IP6 offering efficient entry to primary routes of Central Portugal, along with major cities and airports.

What opportunities are there in this position to prove a value to living there? The local community of Travanca do Mondego can be accessed within only ten minutes by foot. This nearby area boasts a small shop for items not available for delivery to the door, two charming cafe's that double as bars, along with excellent primary level establishments for children.

For those who are fond of the outdoors there are lots of recreational facilities and opportunities in the region including horse rides, bike rides, climbing and beautiful woodland walks. Within two kilometres, you will locate many water activities to enjoy, including fishing and canoeing on the wonderful lakes created by Barragem da Aguiera dam. This reservoir is created by the Rivers Alva and Mondego. As well as swimming, sunbathing, taking out a dingy, or having a BBQ, there is the Montebelo Aguiera lake resort and marina plus plenty of other restaurants and bars in the area.

The village of Lagares has amazing mountain views for your enjoyment. These can be reached in approximately twenty five min's and here you have the 27 hole Montebelo golf course. Set between the Serra da Estrela and Serra do Caramulo ranges, this course grants a rare chance to encounter this sport among the most attractive views in Central Portugal.

Within 4 kilometres you will reach Sao Pedro de Alva. In Sao Pedro de Alva you are able to access banks, the post office, health clinic, schools and yet more cafe's and bars to choose from. For larger supermarkets and choice of facilities you can reach Penacova, Mortagua, Santa Comba Dao or Coimbra within 15 minutes to half an hour. Coimbra is well worth a visit. Of special interest is its University, Universidade de Coimbra, one of the oldest Universities anywhere in the world. This establishment of higher learning was founded in 1290. Coimbra, both old and new will offer you endless visual and culinary experiences to explore A short drive away you will find the historical Roman ruins at Conimbriga for a memorable day trip.

From Lagares you can visit the Serra da Estrella National Park an hour away with skiing facilities available part of the year. A drive west will guide you to the coast where you will discover endless beach locations to relax on including Praia da Tocha and Figueira da Foz.
