A Brief Look At Golfers Elbow

By Peter Funk

While golfing or discussing golf you may have heard of Golfers Elbow. If you are not an avid golfer, you may have simply ignored it. There are many possible causes of this elbow pain though and it is necessary to note any elbow pain you may feel.

Working out or using a computer for a long time can lead to problems due to the repetitive motions. This makes you more susceptible to soreness in the areas that are used most. When this involves what you do for a living, it should not be taken lightly.

Inflamed soft tissue causes this elbow pain which is a form of tendinitis. It is similar to Tennis Elbow. The difference is that the pain is on the inside of the elbow instead of the outside. Since they are so similar, determining which pain you are feeling can be hard. You should always see a doctor to find out exactly what is causing the trouble.

There are only a few symptoms. Lifting, grasping or flexing the wrist often causes more pain. When you open doors, for example, it might hurt. It can also be hard to extend your arm fully. You can suffer from it for anywhere from a few weeks to many years but on average it lasts six to twelve weeks. Regardless, it is important to know how to treat it.

When you can, resting your arm is the best course of action. However, this is not always possible when work needs to be done. In this case resting the arm as much as possible can be coupled with other options. You can learn about stretches and massages that will help with the soreness when they are done properly. Anti-inflammatory pain killers can also provide short term relief. This would include ibuprofen and related drugs.

For some, pills are difficult to take and can therefore stand as a barrier against pain relief. A new option available is a cream that you rub on the sore area. It soaks into the skin and works against the inflammation. Consider these options and discuss your possibilities with your doctor.

After the initial pain goes away people tend to think they are in the clear. This is the kind of issue that can return so precautions have to be taken. Keep up with any stretching exercises that reduce pain and prevent it from coming back. Most of all, avoid doing those repetitive motions without taking any breaks. Missing out on work once is hard enough to deal with, let alone over and over again.

If the pain does flare up again it is best to put ice on your elbow. If it continues, take another trip to the doctor. Once you know which method works best for you it may be easier to deal with the second time. You may choose to get rid of Golfers Elbow by simply resting it, taking a pill, or using a new topical cream. No matter what, it is necessary to deal with it before it gets worse.
