Munich - A Hotspot For German History And Culture

By Ben Pate

Munich, the capital of Bavaria, a region of Germany. It's the third-most populated city in Germany with around 1.3 million people living there. Known as a cultural hub of Germany, it's home to many museums, parks, theatres, and more, as well as being the location for the world-famous beer festival, Oktoberfest. The city itself is so interesting, making it a great location for a trip. You will have to get a passport before you can go though, but all you need to do is fill out a United States passport application.

Make getting ready for your trip less stressful by getting your passport at an online passport expediting site. These websites provide official passport services where you can fill out your information and submit it all online. If you simply need yours renewed, you can fill out a U.S. online passport renewal. The biggest perk is being able to choose when you'd like it to arrive at your house. If your plane leaves later that week, you can have your passport in time. This definitely beats the usual 8-14 week delivery period.

A great starting spot for exploring the city is the largest public square in Munich, Marienplatz. This spot has been a public gathering place since Munich was founded, and it's evolved into a spot where tourists and locals alike gather to people-watch, enjoy a delicious meal, shop a little, and more. There are interesting landmarks in the plaza as well, and it's location puts you near several of the other very important ones and the train station. Definitely don't miss out on the 11am and 5pm glockenspiel show at the central clock tower. It's definitely something to see.

There are quite a few spectacular palaces and castles in Munich. Schloss Nymphenburg is a Baroque palace that served as a summer home for the rulers of Bavaria. Along with the beautiful park on its grounds, it's one of the most famous sites in Munich. The inside features beautiful art, both on the walls and on display. Another Baroque palace is Schloss Schleiheim. Residenz is an old castle located in the City Centre.

Alte Pinakothek is one of the best-known museums in Munich as well as in Europe. It houses quite an impressive collection of 14th through 18th century art created by the world's best artists: Rembrandt, Botticelli, Da Vinci, and much more. You can honestly find a museum for any art style in Munich, and there are a variety for some interesting subjects, such as the BMW Museum, the Jewish Museum, and one of the largest technology museums in the world, Deutsches Museum.

The Munich Zoo is one of the most popular spots in the city. This zoo is actually one of the world's largest, and there so many exotic animals roaming in their natural habitats. What makes this zoo so special is the fact they are a geo-zoo, a zoo that keeps animals in communities, so you get the experience of exploring a nature preserve or going on a safari.
