Water Test Kits Can Keep You And Your Family Safe

By Velma Joseph

If there is one ingredient that all scientists agree is absolutely necessary for life it's water. This liquid is home to life, it fills up a large percentage of our bodies, and without it we can die from dehydration. Although it is important, however, there have always been associated with drinking it. Throughout history there are countless stories of death coming from the hands of this liquid and that is because it can be contaminated easily through a number of ways. Without the knowledge we have today, people would intermingle their sewage and drinking reservoirs. This doesn't happen today within first world nations but that still doesn't mean that purchasing water test kits is not important.

Treatment facilities in the cities that we live in do a good job of filtering out contaminants, but there are still chemicals and even organisms that can pass through. Drinking from the tap is not always the safest options depending on where you live and can spread diseases both acute and chronic.

These kits are extremely inexpensive, offering peace of mind at a fantastic price. The things that can find their way into your supply and vary on where the source of your water actually comes from be it a well or city facility.

Also, there are city and well water kits that differ in what they look for, but their are some common contaminants. These include chlorine, which in high amounts has been proven to be carcinogenic, pH issues, hardness, bacteria, pesticides, nitrites, nitrates, and lead.

The list of the most common contaminants is not long, but they can certainly reek havoc. They include pH issues, hardness problems, chlorine, nitrites, nitrates, bacteria, pesticides, and lead. Referenced earlier, lead has been shown to be extremely toxic to children and harmful to adults. It has found it's way into toys, paints, and plumbing so having it in your water can be a consequence of having an older pipe system.

Pesticides are commonly used in the growth of plants and these can seep through the dirt and get into a water supply. Depending on the kinds that get through and their levels, they can be quite poisonous. Bacteria is also a pest that can cause illness and E.coli does in over 50,000 people per year.

Without knowing what it is you're ingesting, you can put yourself at risk for a cumulative effect. This means that any hazardous compounds will eventually build up within your system over months and years and depending on the compounds can cause severe health issues.
