Some Facts About Well Intervention

By Janette Livingston

In order to increase the possibility to extend the life of aging wells, well intervention or work is done. To enhance their qualities, repair is one of its major processes. Reduction of the amount of maintenance can be a good result to this work. This work paves the way in finding reserves of hydrocarbon. Information in managing the production rate can also be given by doing its needed operations.

In doing this operation, conditions of the well will be first assessed. Proper treatments will be given after. These treatments involve different procedures and plans like choosing the type of vessels that will be used in the operations. Light and medium vessels are mostly used in doing the operation. However, for re-drilling, which is considered a heavy intervention, an offshore drilling unit is needed. Safe and controllable equipment should be used in performing its operation.

Techniques or procedures must be observed for a successful operation. One of the techniques that are applicable to use is through-tubing. Through-tubing can eradicate the obstructions that stop the flow of hydrocarbons.

Coiled tubing is also one of the techniques. Chemicals are being applied to the base of the well which are being dug out by the workers. Coiled tubing may be used for wire lines that malfunctioned. This is applicable for activities like logging, cleaning or cementing. It is versatile to use.

Other types of tools used in different operations are slick line, braided wire line, and electric line. Operations for this work can be completed through the use of these tools.

Added to these methods is pumping. It is conducted through pumping chemicals inside the area being dug out. The use of hardware is not required in doing this procedure. Other procedure is the slick line. This procedure is mostly used in the finishing logging tasks. Logging tasks are essential in storing details of geologic formations.

Braided line is also another type of operation. Slick line is less complicated compared to this type of operation. A braided line is also stronger than slick line. Meanwhile, snubbing operation or hydraulic work over, is performed by placing pipes into the area being dug up against well bore pressure. This procedure is done to carry different tasks.

Various procedures or methods are used in conducting the operations of well intervention. These can be done on oil or in gas. Necessary precautions and right vessels must be used in every operation. Also, different procedures that are appropriate and needed must be done and followed. Read more about: Well Intervention
