A Canary Island to Suit Everyone

By Steve Alexander

The Canary Islands offer something for everyone with glorious beaches, exhilarating water sports and animal attractions. We take a look at what each island is famous for as choosing which one to visit can be tricky.

Whether it's surfing, windsurfing or kitesurfing that gets your pulse rating, you'll find plenty of teaching schools in Fuerteventura. With its idyllic climate and sea conditions, the island is a haven for water sports enthusiasts hoping to get wet and wild on their holiday.

Tenerife is well-knwon for its party atmosphere in and around the resorts of Playa de Las Americas and Los Cristianos, as well as late night bars and all inclusive hotels. The island offers much more than margaritas for couples looking for a romantic getaway and a more sobering experience as they'll be able to witness the true beauty of this volcanic island by heading north.

From the impressive views of Mount Teide, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, to its unusual lunar landscape, there is an array of scenic walks to enjoy with that special someone. The black sand beaches also offer an interesting alternative to their imported siblings in the south, and are ideal if you'd prefer a quieter, more romantic sunbathing experience.

Lanzarote offers a variety of super slides, natural wonders and Wild West-themed thrills for your kids to enjoy, so you'll certainly be in their good books. The resorts of Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca offer water sports galore, while both you and the kids will be able to get soaked at the AquaPark Lanzarote, which offers a wide range of slides and flumes.

The best zoo and botanical park in the Canaries is Palmitos Park in Gran Canaria, which is always a great day out for the entire family. Impressive dolphin shows are held at various times throughout the day, while visitors will also be able to see komodo dragons, gibbons, meerkats, more than 1,500 exotic birds and 4,000 species of fish.
