For golfers, Portugal has become the place to go for your holidays in Europe. There is the fact it has good weather; but it is also because there is a really good selection of golf course to choose from there. Perhaps the most significant feature is the fact that there are courses of very different skill level there. Some parts of the country just feature a few courses, but these courses may be of extremely high quality; other areas offer a multitude of courses of varying difficulties.
On the southern tip of Portugal is the Algarve, which is an area which has a lot of different courses within a very small space. So if you just book into one hotel for your holiday, you certainly won't run out of different courses to play on. There is also a lot of choice in terms of the skill level required of them. There are those that are incredibly difficult, reserved for championship games, and those that are more modest in their expectations.
The advantage of this is that it allows you to find a course that matches your ability, so that you can hone the skills you need to work on. It also means that if you get better and manage to complete a given course with a good score, you can move onto something a little harder to make the holiday more interesting.
Vilamoura is perhaps one of the most popular destinations for golf enthusiasts visiting the Algarve. There you have access to six great courses, but also easy access to some great bars and restaurants too. If you want to combine good golfing with some partying, then why not stay at Albufeira which is well known for its bustling night life, but is only a short drive away from Vilamoura's courses.
Portugal is an excellent country for a golfing holiday, and the Algarve is a great option if you are going there. There is the excellent weather, the vibrant culture, and guaranteed excellent games of golf.
