The French Border Regions Can Offer The Best Of Different Cultures

By Julio Florentino

The French border regions are one of the most popular destinations in the world. One of the main reasons for that is because they have a diverse culture that you can experience all in one place. These locations are basically perched right on the borders of the other countries and you can travel a huge part of Europe this way. This makes it possible for you to move from one nation to another in virtually minutes or perhaps an hour.

The region of Alsace is only a stone's throw from Germany and by taking a quick trip from Strasbourg across the Rhine River, you will be in a whole new country. Excellent German cuisines of the olden days and its associated traditions will be wonderful to experience. Further, they'll be tons of major historical monuments and sites to visit. Building structures which resemble those of fairy tales are common. Road signs of both the languages of France and Germany will be present due to the huge traffic from both countries.

If you want to get to Spain, you ought to check out the Languedoc-Roussilon area. Near the border itself, you'll be able to see many remnants of Spanish architecture on its buildings. There is also the famed Pyrenees Mountains which will be of wonderful view. Cassoulets and wines of all sorts will have certain features of Spain mixed into them as well.

Alternatively, you could consider checking out Nice, which will be influenced by the Italian culture. It also has a highly intriguing historical past. Around this region, you'll be able to see cafes riddling its sidewalks that offer Italian cuisine instead of French as you might have expect. There are farmer markets present as well, and tons of products and souvenirs can be shopped for here. You could very well end up spending your entire day here just checking out the shopping goods, the food and the various other attractions.

A couple of other noteworthy border regions would be the Rhone Alps and the Nord Pas De Calais. Nord Pas De Calais is situated nearby Belgium. In this particular area, instead of the usual wine, you'll be seeing a lot of beer around. Likewise, instead of vineyards, there will be breweries everywhere. As for the Rhone Alps, it is especially famous for the stunning views of its snow-capped mountains as well as its greatly desired spa treatments and massages that cannot be found elsewhere.
