Stolen Young Hol Chan

By Frank D. Gardner

According to the BBC report, the 10 thousand years old skeleton which was found in the bottom of a cave was given the same name, submerged in Quintana Roo.

The skeleton was found 542 meters from the cave's entrance of one of Tulum's pool's or cenotes having a depth of 8 meters. As the area was open for diving enthusiasts, the divers discovered this in 2006. But, it is not found there anymore.

There are 6 other skeletons found in Quintana Roo aside from the ones mentioned; these were from people who lived there during the last glaciation owing to the fact that fossilized remains were found in underwater caves, meaning they were buried on the surface when they died. But, the fossilized remains were covered with water in the time of the ice age's end and due to the melting of snow the sea level increased.

The Priceless Treasure Is Missing

For ages the bones of what could possibly be one of several earliest skeletons of America were collected. In 2010, most parts were collected which actually provided proof that the continent was populated by Asians.

We do not know from which period these human bones are because the bones were not yet analyzed. Owing to the fact that he lived before the material was used, he was deemed as "pre-ceramic".

Today, the skeleton is nowhere to be found and therefore, scientist cannot study it. "Someone came in front of us and we don't know the skeleton's whereabouts", stated Jeronimo Aviles, who takes part in the "Pre-ceramic Men" project in the Yucatan Peninsula. When the team of scholars visited the area where they had discovered the bones, they discovered that the skeleton was taken out with no care. Only a few remnants were left, plus 2 skulls from bats.

With the facts on hand, INAH or the National Instituted of Anthropology and History presented a report stating that there was repeated and several occasions of robbery in the institute. In spite of this, it pointed out that this is 'no ordinary' robbery as it's the looting of a priceless treasure with a high scientific value.

"The skeletons discovered in the Tulum's cenotes have a high significance for anthropological history because of their age, considering that seemingly they fit in with the first locals of The United States," stated Carmen Rojas Sandoval who has taken part of the study of the skeletons for the last 10 years.

It was emphasized by the researcher that, not everyone knew the bones' exact location; and to get there one has to proceed through flooded, dark mazes, a thousand seventy meters from the entrance with depth of 3 meters.

In 2011, the INAH released the news of the finding, but it certainly did not brought up the area of discovery. This makes us think of a prepared action from somebody who knew about the work. Yet, last March new images of the place were shown where they located the remains.

Hence, the link which could establish that the first humans arrived at the Yucatan Peninsula fleeing the ice age which had covered half the world for hundreds of years is LOST.

What type of penalty, you think, ought to be put on the thieves?
