Almost all local authorities within the U.K now have compulsory disability knowledge training, this should increase the level of service that passengers receive however Yellow Walsall Taxi cabs have pushed the bounders of what is exacted of their own staff, all the yellow cars staff are required to complete in-house disability awareness course after their initial four week taxi driver training has been fulfilled. The training content has been below so that it subscribers a bit of information about what they should expect from cabs and private hire drivers not only in Walsall but across the country. Section One of the Disability Discrimination Act describes disability as a physical or mental impairment which has a considerable long-term adverse impact on a person's capacity to normal everyday living. A concept of impairment and disability by some disability communities emphasises the decline of prospects as a result of social as well as environmental obstacles. Impairment injury, illness or congenital problem that may cause or is likely to cause a loss of difference in physiological (body) or psychological, mental and emotional function.

The disability discrimination act 1995 introduced fresh regulations to end discrimination the people experience. The Act provides disabled people new legal rights of access to goods, facilities and services. The act is split into Five parts, two components directly impact on transportation providers in their provision of their own services which are:

Code of Practice of Rights regarding Access to Services and Premises (section 3, this covers responsibilities in connection with the provision of transportation infrastructure services.)

Code of Practice on Provision and Use of Transport Cars (supplementary to Section Three code), this addresses duties with regards to the provision and use of transportation vehicles.

It is unlawful for transport providers to refuse service to a disabled person, offer a lower standard of service or provide a service on worse terms to a disabled person for a reason related to his or her disability, e.g. making an additional charge.
