Signs That It Is The Right Time To Get New Goodyear Tires

By John Z. Barbosa

Many people are unaware of one of the most basic care requirements for Goodyear tires, which is to know how to determine if their tires are ready for replacement. Though most tires will last somewhere between 20,000 and 60,000 miles, even the greatest set will eventually have to be replaced and it is crucial that car owners know when to do so.

In some cases, no matter how you care for a tire, you will have to change them out before the recommended number of miles. The more you take big trips or drive over less-than-smooth terrain, like speed bumps or gravel, the more you are reducing the life of each tire. One way of knowing that a tire change is coming up is by how rough your car rides on even the smoothest roads. When you start to notice drastic changes in the way your vehicle rides, like hard vibrations or loud tire noises, you should check out every tire and make sure they are not badly worn.

One thing that you must monitor closely is the thickness of the tread on your tires. After your tire tread has worn away to the point that there is only about 2/32s of an inch left, it is time for a change. There are tread gauges available at your local auto parts store, but a lot of people just use an upside down penny, which is inserted one of the grooves between treads. If utilizing the upside down penny trick, when all of Lincoln's head is visible, it is time for you to change out that tire.

Finally, be sure to visually inspect your vehicle's tires on a regular basis and before any long journey. Use a tire pressure gauge to make sure they are properly inflated and check closely for any bad punctures or abrasions. If you notice a significant difference in tire pressure or notice any damage whatsoever, you should have the tire looked at by a professional.

When you do determine that it is the right time to replace your Goodyear tires, the best way to do so is to replace the entire set at once. Not everyone has the money to do this, which is okay, but it is still greatly recommended that you at least change out the tire that shares an axle with the one that is no longer any good. Simply replacing one tire can lead to poor performance and quicker wear of the remaining tires.
