If you are someone who enjoys long walks along beautiful trails, Tasmania is the place to be in. Tasmanian walking trails are within a day's drive from most destinations that offer beautiful walking trails. Mostly found in the large expanses of various National Parks all over Tasmania, including the world famous Cradle Mountain - Lake St. Claire Park to the Freycinet National Park on the coast, the beautiful walking trails not only attract you with their scenic beauty but also offer challenges to those that love walking.
The Tasmanian Trail that begins in the Devonport on the north coast and finishes at Dover in the south is one of the best walks ever. It is a 480 kilometer stretch that can be covered over several days or be segmented into smaller walks that are covered in a day. The entire stretch offers Tasmania's hidden treasures and small old towns, beautiful old forests and farmlands. The walk over bridges and through the small towns gives you a chance to witness the countries richest natural heritage.
To the west you will find a great trail leading to the mesmerizing Montezuma Falls, one of Tasmania's highest waterfalls. It is a moderate walk taking close to three hours to complete and you are rewarded with magnificent views at the base of the falls. Head to Williams ford and then on to Roseberry to find the trail a few kilometers to the south. There are a number of different tree species that will catch your eye as you enjoy the rainforest and plentiful species of birds.
With the bays on one side, beautiful beaches on the second and great granite boulders on the third side, the Freycinet Peninsula, is a walk trail, which offers magnificent sights, whichever direction you glance at. There are beautiful camping parks at Coles Bay, on the east coast, where you can base yourself to begin your fascinating trek. Walk along the Hazards Beach moving on to Cooks beach over a stretch of scenic 13 kilometers. Bless yourself with some vivid coastal scenery on your way back to your base. Take Mt. Graham to Wineglass bay and back to Coles bay on a stretch of another 5 kilometers, a comparatively shorter walk. Enjoy the sun while you explore this amazing stretch of 18 kilometers and enjoy the incredible walk.
Another well known and spectacular walk is located at Cradle Mountain. The Lake Dove Circuit takes just over an hour to complete and will take you around Dove Lake and to the base of Cradle Mountain. One of the most entrancing features of the walk is the Ballroom forest that towers above you closer to the end. Make sure you bring your camera. The more adventurous might want to head to the Cradle Mountain summit. The choice of track is weather dependant and you need to have a high level of fitness to attempt the eight hour trek. It is worth the time to reach the summit, with indescribable views of the national park that have to be seen to be believed.
