Addo, a great holiday destination in the Eastern Cape.

Addo is a small town located in the Eastern Cape Province. Not many people are aware that this is a great holiday getaway that is surrounded by contrasting dense thickets of sperkboom open lush grass patches and the old wooded kloof. Surrounded by citrus estates, roses and an abundant birdlife this little town will really offer you nature and beauty at its best away from the city hustle and bustle.

The Addo Elephant Park is a big tourist attraction and rounds up thousands of people a year. The park offers a wide range of game viewing, outdoor adventures accommodation and Africa cultural experiences. Home to approximately 350 elephants, the black rhino and the Cape buffalo can also be seen. Starting out with only 11 elephants in 1937 the elephant park has defiantly bloomed and is saving theses giant creatures from becoming extinct.

The Dung Beetle Breeding station might not be the first option on your plate, but give it try you will actually be surprised. These tiny beetles reaching 22 - 47 mm long, with no wings and favour elephant dung play a great part at the elephant park. They roll the dung into balls which are then used for feeding or breeding. A guided tour at the breeding station will teach you more about these very unique beetles.

If history is something of interest to you then the Valley of the ancient Voices walk will defiantly intrigue you. This is a four hour walk that shows you rock art, relics and artifacts that show you clues to the countless number of animals and people that of passed through here. A knowledgeable guide will lead the way along a two kilometer path from start to finish. There are several stops along the way where you can admire and appreciate the rock art and wildlife.No need to bring you own snacks as picnic packs and refreshments are provided at the rock pool.

In the month of February you are just in time for The Herald Cycle Tour. The cycle starts and ends at the Elephant Park. The path takes riders through some technical terrain with plenty of steep climbs and extreme descents the riders will definitely be challenged in both stamina and technical ability.Riders are recommended to use high factor sun block and to make use of the many water stops along the way, due to the hot weather during this month.
