Using a Lighter to Crisp Meat

By Drew Danson

If you are wondering about different ways you could use your butane kitchen lighter, you will be glad to know that there are many that you may not have ever considered. Do not only bring out that butane lighter when you want to make a dessert. Instead, make sure to bring it out when you are cooking the main course of a meal. You can actually add a crisp surface to the meats with that lighter. If you know how to make use of your lighter, then you can add a crispy shell to a meat and it will still retain a juicy perfectly cooked inside. Here are the steps you need to take in order to crisp meat with a butane lighter.

To start with, make sure you use the right meats. Not all meats are conducive to crisping. However, the ones that you can use would include chicken and turkey if the skin is still on it. In addition, steaks and fish can enjoy the touch of the butane lighter as well. After you have chosen the right meats, the next thing you will need to consider is to make sure that you cook the meat thoroughly in advance. Using the butane lighter will not cook the meat. It will only crisp it.

After you have cooked the meat, you will need to turn your butane lighter to medium if you are crisping chicken and turkey. If you are blackening fish or steak, you will want the lighter on high. Then, all you need to do is pass the flame slowly over the meat. The tip of the flame should just barely touch the surface of the meat and the flame should never stay in one place long. Otherwise, you may scorch the meat.

In order to make sure you crisp the meat correctly, you will need to make sure you cook the meat thoroughly in advance. Then, you will need to never allow the lighter to stay still. Instead, keep the flame moving and keep it an even distance away from the meat. You should see the meat brown slightly. This is how you will know that the meat is crisped correctly.

Your butane lighter has numerous uses other than desserts in the kitchen. It is time you start using that lighter for those different uses, including crisping meats. This will add more flavor and more enjoyment to the meats you serve your friends and family at meals.
