Sun Peaks community BC is a newly created resort situated in Canada. Being the third largest ski resort in the country and the largest in British Columbia, it is becoming a popular holiday destination. Situated only 35 miles to the North of Kamloops, it is a good competitor with the other of British Columbia's resorts. There are a wide variety of summer activities that you can take part in. Two mountains boarder the resort, it is a great place to relax and unwind or even be active and exercise.
Sun Peaks is the first municipality of a mountain resort. This came about in June 2010. In order to become a successful tourist area, the resort needs to grow in a controlled manner. The number of people living there on a permanent basis is around 500.
The average annual snowfall is about 18 feet or 5.5 meters. This and the variety of gradients offered by the Morrisey, Tod, and Sundance Mountains makes it a paradise for ski enthusiasts be they beginner or advanced. The vertical drop of 2,894 feet or 882 meters puts this resort in the rankings of Americas best. A nine acre terrain park is also available for snow boarders and daring skiers.
Besides skiing, activities in the summer are becoming popular as well. Because it sits between the mountains, there is a valley that is perfect for a golf course. Trails have been created, with lift access, for those who want to hike or go downhill Mountain biking. There is also the Sun Peaks & Region Farmers Market that is put on every week. The local people bring their arts and crafts to sell and the ranchers and farmers bring their produce for people to buy.
With a resort this large, there needs to be a lot of employees. Without them, the resort will not flourish. It sometimes is difficult to find people to work here because housing can be on the expensive side. Guest lodging needs to also grow so more visitors can be accommodated.
It is possible to fly or drive in to Sun Peaks. There is a need for a new more direct road to save traveling time. Visitors from Banff and Lake Louise in the east will increase once a better road is in place. Direct flights from Seattle are offered by a few airlines.
Al Raine is the mayor of the municipality. He has the experience of playing a major role in the development of Whistler, BC. His wife is a multiple Olympic gold medalist skier and, as skiing director, likes to join guests on skiing outings. With these two prominent people at the helm, Sun Peaks community, should become a popular destination. Read more about: Sun Peaks Community
