City Bike Roads: Why Should The Building Process Be Stopped?

By Rob Sutter

Cars seem to have the most space spared to them out of just about any land-based vehicle. I know that these are the most typical ways of moving about but why does it have to be that they are the only ones commonly looked at? While you may not think that other modes of transportation, in this regard, deserve to be looked at, they should be. A city bike road system sounds ideal and the fact that it has been paused in some areas of the world isn't right.

News stories speaking about protesting groups may typically have legitimate reasons to go about cases. The article that I had read on Global Edmonton is one that makes me shake my head, especially since I support the creation of city bike lanes. Residents within the Edmonton area had voiced their concerns about this movement, believing that it would do nothing short of hindering drivers on the road. It's a conflict in which companies such as Linus Bike would offer support to the cycling community.

One of the specific concerns about these roads being built is a reduced parking space. According to the article, this endeavor could potentially create a 15 minute loading zone if this manages to go through. It's also been said that the people were not informed of this beforehand, therefore making it difficult for them to airing their concerns in the initial stages. I understand that there may be worry with something as big as construction, but I don't feel like there should be any concern at all.

Shouldn't the building of these roads actually raise more support than concerns? I feel as though it should because of how many people are actually going to be able to travel in a safer fashion. They can take to their own specialized roads without having to deal with traffic, congestion, and miscellaneous hazards which cars seem to be associated with. I hope that not everyone raises concerns over this endeavor because the amount of potential that it possesses is so great that I can see it happening soon.

I used to enjoy biking immensely until mine was stolen but I think that anyone can agree that a city bike street system possesses many positives. People, who say that this idea would be more congestive than anything else, may not see the big picture. Cyclists are just as important as those who operate motor vehicles and, in my mind, they deserve a safe way to move about on the roads. Maybe it won't be long until we see more of these come about in packed areas.
