Prevent Your Dream Vacation from Turning into a Nightmare with These Simple Tips

By Corbett Wong

Almost everyone loves to travel, but many people do not love planning for a vacation. Arranging the logistics of any trip can be complex and mentally intimidating. By educating yourself with these tips, you can make the planning process as painless as possible.

When traveling, try packing light by planning what you desire to do and where you want to go. A light, smart packing job will make any trip easier and more enjoyable.

Take the time to make a packing list. Anywhere from a week to a few months before you go on your trip, make a list of the things you absolutely need to pack. This can especially help you if you are in a rush to pack, as it will prevent you forgetting things or including unnecessary items.

After your flight, try to stay calm if you find out that your luggage has not arrived at your destination. Instead, you should locate an airport official to ask where the office for lost luggage is located. Show your flight documents and ID cards, and fill out needed paperwork. Generally, your luggage will show up, and you'll get it as quickly as possible.

Try to avoid exchanging currency when you are in a new country. There is an easier way to obtain your foreign currency. Get your foreign currency out of a bank's ATM. A lot of times these machines offer better exchanges rates, and are cheaper than using an exchange.

Request rooms on higher floors if one is available. As trivial as this may seem, thieves have easier access to your room if it is on the bottom or ground floor. If you can, request a room that doesn't have doors that slide open. The doors make these rooms easier for thieves to enter.

To adjust to a new time zone faster, stay awake until at least 8pm local time. Though you may be exhausted, succumbing to sleep earlier than you should may end up making your jet lag worse because you have not allowed your body to recalibrate. Adjusting to local time is best way to defeat the effects of jet lag.

The tips mentioned will hopefully have given you useful information as to how to start planning your next trip. These suggestions can help you educate yourself with the knowledge you need to get the most out of your next trip and travel happily and safely!
