Travel Next Time With These Useful Tips In Mind

By Charlotte Krawczyk

If you bring many valuables with you, you run the risk of losing them or having them stolen.

Get a room on the highest floor possible. Rooms on lower floors, particularly the ground floor, are at greater risk of theft due to easier access. If you can, request a hotel room that has only windows and no sliding glass doors. The doors make these rooms easier for thieves to enter.

It's important to keep in mind that there are many guests in every hotel. Be a good travel neighbor by exercising common courtesy. Don't shout and slam doors or stomp around. Even at mid-day others may be napping, overcoming jet lag or feeling unwell. Silence is not required but try to keep the volume down.

Make sure you research for hotels that accommodate pets if you plan on bringing your pet along. Make sure that you take the time to research a variety of different hotels in order to get the best place for your money, as well as to make sure you get a place that meets both you and your pet's needs.

It is best to take dark clothing on a trip, especially if you are bringing pants or dresses. This type of clothing will hide dirt and wrinkles, things that will naturally happen to your clothes when traveling. To lighten the overall effect of your travel ensemble, use accessories such as scarves or jewelry to introduce less somber hues.

Don't panic if your checked luggage doesn't make it with you to your destination. Ask an airport employee where the office to report lost luggage is located. Go to the office with your travel documents in hand and fill out a lost luggage claim. Soon enough, your luggage will most likely be found, and you'll be on your way.

Don't forget to pack clothespins on your next trip! They are often forgotten, but they actually can prove to be very useful.

If a travel site has an E-tracking option, utilize it. They will give you the most up-to-date information on travel fees. You will get an email if the plane tickets you booked or are thinking about purchasing, go on sale.

Make an effort to have children understand airport security. Explain what they will go through when they have to go through security at the airport. If you have young children, ask if you can go through security with them. If not, go before them so they realize how easy it is.

Sleeping pills or tranquilizers can help you through those long red-eye flights. Lots of people aren't comfortable sleeping on planes, because the place isn't familiar, the seats are uncomfortable, and the passengers and airplane make noise. If you want a surefire way to make it through your flight, try taking a sleeping pill in order to relax, calm down and sleep through it. Don't take the medication before you go in case there are delays or problems with the plane.

Make a packing list. Start as soon as you can before your trip, that way you can add your must-have items to the list as you think of them. Creating a list is a great way to stay organized, and even if you procrastinate, it will be useful to get packing done quickly.
