Camping can be a great way to spend a vacation and a few nights out under the stars. It is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy nature in a beautiful national or state park. If you are planning a trip, you want to be fully aware of the most important camping safety tips in order to stay safe.

First you want to have a fully stocked first aid medical kit. In this you must have proper medical equipment in case of accidents or injuries. Bandages, gauze, rubbing alcohol, and disinfectant solution are all a must if someone suffers a cut or a small wound.

Have a pair of little scissors handy and a pair of tweezers. Tweezers are good for splinters if some small wood chips get caught in the skin. Bring all of your mediations both prescribed and over the counter like pain relievers and antihistamines.

Since you never know what can happen out in the elements, you need to pack safety equipment like an emergency blanket and a flashlight. Be sure to have extra batteries on hand for the flash light. A pocket knife can help out immensely in all kinds of situations. A lighter is great to have so that you can easily start up a campfire.

Campfires are great for cooking and heating foods as well as keeping a light source through the evening. There are many campgrounds that have strict rules on the lighting of fires in terms of size and locations. Remember to put the fire out at the end of the night by pouring water over it before you head into your tent to sleep. If you decide to bring a propane stove or small burner for cooking then keep an eye on it at all times while cooking.

Arrive at your location early and while it is still light outside, you need to do a thorough visual check of the ground to ensure there is no dangerous debris around and choose a flat spot to set up the tent. You want to have the tent properly erected so do this during the daytime hours.

Bugs can be a big concern while outside so be sure to have bug spray and repellent. You can also purchase candles that repel bugs like mosquitos. It is wise not to wear any colognes or perfumes and to wear light colored clothes to keep bugs away. Wildlife is also something to watch out for so be cautious of animals like bears and use the bear proof boxes on the campsite when they are available.

One of the most vital camping safety tips to memorize is to always be wary of animals and especially of bears because they can prove deadly if you have an encounter. Keep your site clean and through garbage and trash away in the proper containers and Keep all foods and toiletry items out of the tent so that animals are not attracted to your sleeping spot. Camping requires some planning and precautions but it can make for a lifetime of fond memories.
