Dubrovnik Croatia: The Pearl Of The Adriatic

Found on the edge of the Adriatic Sea, the natural and historical beauty of Dubrovnik Croatia has enthralled vacationers for a long time. George Bernard Shaw was so intrigued with the great beauty of this south Croatian medieval area that it won the moniker "the pearl of the Adriatic" from this renowned writer.

The scenery of Dubrovnik is abundant in beauty with all the beaches, the bays, the woodlands and the steep cliffs. At the same time, those with a love for the historical past and the wonders of bygone periods will find this city with its old medieval alleys, squares, churches and also the still unchanged city walls nothing short of intriguing.

Sightseeing at Dubrovnik

Yet another old palace of the city is the Rector's Palace, additionally constructed by Onofrio della Cava. This palace, however, has endured various injuries from numerous wars during medieval periods. The existing structure therefore has little resemblance with the original edifice and currently represents more like a hodgepodge of various architectural styles and traditions.

The Franciscan Monastery of the Old Town has an illustrious history. It's reported that the monastery housed the earliest apothecary in Europe. The monastery was demolished in the 1667 earthquake and was afterwards reconstructed.
